Performance Space is looking for an intern with a background in archives, conservation or information systems management and an interest in the arts to assist with the organization, cataloguing and digitalizing of its archives.

Our archives go back to 1980 and offer an important snapshot of the development of independent performance and art in Sydney.  In 2011 a Significance Assessment was undertaken, with the result that the archives were deemed culturally significant. In addition to providing an important resource for research currently being undertaken they are also under the spotlight in 2013 as Performance Space celebrates its 30th birthday and launches its Artists in the Archives project.

The Archival Intern’s responsibilities will include:

- Scanning and cataloguing documents, photos, marketing collateral etc

- Assisting the artists with correct handling procedures as they draw on the archives for information

- Developing a user interface for people to easily search and access archival materials

- Managing digital versions of archival material

- Ensuring protocols regarding the handling and use of the archives are adhered to

The internship involves a large amount of independent work, and would suit a student needing to complete a project for their university internship.

Ideally, the internship will commence on 3 June for about 8 hours per week for 3 – 6 months – we are flexible and can work around course requirements.
