Awfully Wonderful artists Eugene Carchesio and Haines/Hinterding are well known for their impressive careers as visual artists, but are perhaps lesser known for their musical pursuits. This night in the Clubhouse is a rare opportunity to see the artists perform live, improvised musical sets, experimenting with electronic sounds and instruments.

“Although arguably more aesthetically discordant than his visual artworks, the processes linking Carchesio’s visual, musical and performance arts are inextricably linked. A shared interest in minimalism, repetition and hypnotism abound in all of his art.”
- Andrew Tuttle, Cyclic Defrost

Eugene Carchesio is a Brisbane-based artist and musician who has been recording since 1978, and performing since the early 1980s. A self-taught artist and musician, Carchesio’s choice of instruments have included saxophone, drums, electronic instruments, electric guitar, clarinet and voice. Carchesio also performs with The Deadnotes, G55, The Lost Domain and The Holy Ghosts.

David Haines and Joyce Hinterding work collaboratively and independently. Their collaborative work includes large-scale immersive video and sound works that explore the tension between the fictive and the phenomenal, incorporating Hinterding’s concern with the intersection of hallucination and landscape.
