For one night only, give yourself over to these artists’ imaginings of physicality and sexuality. X3 is a night of performances exploring the abstract, the grotesque and the monstrous possibilities of the human body from three very different perspectives.
As you enter the spaces and take your seats, Dallas Dellaforce will transform his physique into a rippling mass of digital flesh – a fabrication of light, costume and optical illusion that takes its cues from the theatre of bodybuilding and body augmentation – here the body is a sculptural form.
Martin del Amo’s A Severe Insult to the Body is an ongoing work, revisited at various moments by the dancer and choreographer over the past fifteen years. What began as an endurance of dissociated, contorted movement – with his body divided into different choreographic zones – has in time become a meditation on ageing and inherent sexuality.
Dance artist Atlanta Eke joins forces with Emma Kim Hagdahl to re-imagine a dual choreography of her incendiary work Monster Body which premiered at Next Wave 2012. Drawing from strong and haunting connections between the imagery that shapes female identity in contemporary culture, her work exposes the monster that lies in the space between the dancer and the audience.

What is this cultural phenomenon, Erotic Fan Fiction?
It’s adults-only storytelling populated by characters from fiction and celebrity life that we may have come across before… in way less sexy circumstances.
“Erotic Fan Fiction readings…have put images in my mind, some of which I will unfortunately, never forget” – Jennifer Byrne on The First Tuesday Book Club
Especially for SEXES, Eddie Sharp has lined-up some lewd, rude and erotic readings by Australian writers including Linda Jaivin, Andrew Frost, Annaleise Constable and Sunil Badami.

If theory’s your thang, Professors Anne Marsh and Ed Scheer go head-to-head in our Keynote Lectures, covering (and uncovering) gender in the visual arts.
Professor Edward Scheer
Typical Males? Masculinities in performance art embodied and outsourced.
This lecture considers a number of examples of performance art from the perspective of ‘masculinities’ as pluralised embodied practices. Beginning with the stereotypes of the typical male, we move into a discussion of what happens when these types are produced and performed by differently sexed bodies.
Professor Ann Marsh
Sexing the Picture
This illustrated lecture will consider the shifts and changes in visual culture in relation to representations of sex and sexuality. It will focus on visual and performed representations from the 19th to the 21st century and consider how gendered, queer and transgendered identities have been framed. Pornography and the porn debates inside feminism will be discussed. The aim will be to unpack stereotypes, re-read the would-be canon of art history and reinsert a radical pulse.
