SEXES is Performance Space’s festival of visual and performing arts exploring sexuality and gendered identities in contemporary Australia. Always progressive and sometimes confronting, it will invigorate current debates, lay our desires bare and turn you on.

Opening up multiple perspectives for thinking about sex and sexuality, this new festival features an extensive visual arts exhibition with 17 artists, two new full-length performance works, live art, dirty movies, erotic readings, a danceathon and many more stimulating events. As a whole, we hope that SEXES will test boundaries, challenge assumptions, and invite you to consider yourself – and others – in a new, sexier light.

Join us for the Opening of SEXES festival this Thursday! It is free, open to all and will feature 3 Live Performances through the Carriageworks foyer. It will be hot!

EXHIBITION: SEXES

25 OCT – 1 DEC 17 artists working in photomedia, video, installation, performance, sculpture, collage and theoretical discourse address the expressions of gender in an Australian context.

LIVE ART PROGRAM: SEXES

25 OCT – 1 DEC Throughout SEXES, the gallery spaces will be animated by a series of live performances that will extend, contextualise, and generally prance around the themes and ideas raised by the exhibition.

PERFORMANCE: WHELPING BOX

23 OCT – 3 NOV Two performers chain themselves to stakes, to test their limits and strip themselves of civility. An absurd spectacle, carried off with absolute conviction.

DANCE: SOMETHING IN THE WAY SHE MOVES

14 NOV – 17 NOV Meet the invisibility specialist – an ordinary, middle-aged woman playfully defying our expectations of dance with her confidential moves for the everyday.

CLUBHOUSE: SEX CLUB

19 NOV – 1 DEC Talks, dirty movies, erotic readings, a danceathon, and much more!
