Lara Thoms

Lara Thoms is interested in social engaged, site-specific and participatory possibilities in contemporary art. She often collaborates with strangers, communities and other artists to create dialogical and relational projects. She has recently presented performative works at Tin Sheds Gallery, Sydney; Galleria, Perth, TCB Gallery, Melbourne; Radial System V, Berlin; Adelaide International Arts Festival and Tristan Koenig Gallery, Melbourne.

As part of duo spat+loogie, Lara was part of Primavera 09 at the MCA, inviting strangers and artists to converse, consume and potentially throw cream pies. spat+loogie’s work has also been show at the Next Wave Festival, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Media Arts Asia Pacific Festival, Hazelhurst Gallery, Raumars Finland, and the Australian Centre for Photography.

Lara is an artistic associate with Aphids and in 2012 will tour her collaborative project Thrashing Without Looking to Salamanca Arts Centre, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Darwin International Arts Festival, Performance Space and Brisbane Powerhouse.

Lara co-founded the site-specific Tiny Stadiums festival, is part of the collective field theory, is a contributor to lalaishere.net and occasional curator for Performance Space.
