Post Residency Wrap: Oedipus Schmoedipus
P
Post (Mish Grigor, Zoe Coombs Marr and Natalie Rose) were recently in residence with Performance Space, chipping away at their new full-length performance project, Oedipus Schmoedipus.
For the work, Post have set themselves the monumental task of collecting and collating every death scene and reference to death in the entire Western theatrical canon. This data is dismembered, entered into a labyrinthine database, and reconfigured into a whole new work, which digs around at what death actually means in performance – and in our culture – as it twists and changes through time.
The first stage showing of this work saw Post gather an exciting and eclectic ensemble of volunteer performers, who stood and delivered a succession of scenes pasted together, Frankenstein-like, to illustrate some of the early outcomes of Post’s research.
We were excited by the results and are looking forward to seeing what follows from this intriguing first-stage development.
