P
The century-old Clifton School of Arts building stands sentinel-like on a cliff top overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Scarborough in the Illawarra. The September equinox makes this the ideal setting for observing and meditating on the harbingers of Spring: plants budding, insects emerging, and migrating shorebirds returning from their Northern hemisphere breeding grounds. Come on a guided nature walk, followed by an experimental word-painting workshop with artist Barbara Campbell and calligrapher Franz Cheung to draw forth the coming season.

Spring Cursive is part of HALLS FOR HIRE, a season of site-specific performance and installation presented by Performance Space in town halls, church halls, sports centres and other community meeting spaces across Sydney. This season invites artists to consider the architecture, history and social function of these spaces and create site-specific interventions that transform, alter, or respond to them via their artistic practices.
