Create a 15 second performance or video portrait and become part of a unique film!

The Democratic Set invites you to take part, or watch others, in the creation of a film that will take place at Carriageworks in late July.

The award-winning Back to Back Theatre brings a visual soapbox to town: a 15 second timeframe, a grand theme of democracy and equality, and 25 years experience making extraordinary work. Made with local community members in each city it visits, the performances filmed inside The Democratic Set are edited together to create a single tracking shot through a series of identical rooms.

Through The Democratic Set, Back to Back Theatre seeks to explore the belief that all people are, in principle, equal and should enjoy social, political, and economic rights and opportunities. Embracing this philosophy, Back to Back Theatre invites you to bring to the screen a short performance or video portrait of your creation. What you choose to do is completely up to you. It will involve you creating a video portrait in their purpose-built set located at Carriageworks. Some past performances have included solos, duets and group performances using movement, sound, projections, costumes and props of any kind. You could simply stand in the set and say nothing if you like.
