Artist Info
Performance Space’s artistic program is curated by our program team of Daniel Brine, Rebecca Conroy, Bec Dean and Rosalind Richards. Each programmer has specialist artform knowledge and interests but works collaboratively to put the program together. Each work we present is lead by one member of the team who works closely with the artist/s, as well as other Performance Space staff on production, marketing, audience development and public programs.
We’re interested in what it means to ‘curate’ a season of performance and visual art: how do we make sense of and provide a frame for the work we present? We’re addressing this by curating ‘concept-led’ seasons and considering the relationships between work.
The program team consults widely with artists and with our peers in other organisations. We regularly attend work-in-progress showings, performances, exhibitions and events. We like to meet artists either in their studios or in our office to talk about their work.
We prefer to develop relationships with artists which are long-term rather than one-off and where we can we work with artists to develop their career over a number of years. We support artists’ practices from research and development, through creative development, to presentation and distribution/touring. We provide artists with residencies, laboratories and workshops to assist their professional development. We commission, produce, co-produce and present work.
Where appropriate and possible we announce an open call inviting proposals for specific parts of our program such as the residencies or a particular season. Please sign up to our monthly artist e-bulletin if you want to be kept up-to-date about our open calls for artists, as well as other opportunities that may be of interest.
Demand to be included in our program is high and we are not able to work with all the artists we would like to. We do not encourage unsolicited proposals or applications for presentation. If you are interested in hiring the theatre, gallery, foyer or rehearsal spaces at CarriageWorks please contact CarriageWorks directly.
